| DIY | A Rather Crafty Christmas

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love  doing crafts. Christmas is such a good time of year to put your skills to use (and save a few pennies!) whilst having fun at the same time! I really enjoy being able to put my own stamp on something and give Christmas my own personal touch- plus it gets me in the festive mood if I stick a Christmas film on while I'm getting crafty! The first thing I always make during the festive period is orange pomanders. I adore the citrus and spicy smell of oranges and cloves combined. It's a cheap and natural way to scent a room for Christmas, and you can decorate them as you wish to put on display! I have a gold plate which I dig out every year, and I usually pop a church candle in the middle and add pine cones too. This makes a fantastic centrepiece on the dining table. To do these you will need:  4/5 large oranges (depending on the size of your plate) 1/2 pots of whole cloves Optional- pinecones, evergreen foliage, candle S...

| HOME | A Look Inside AmysAnnexe's Home

My friend has recently moved into her own place, so I decided to pop over and pick her brain about all things homes and interiors!  Hi, I’m Amy (amysannexe on Instagram) and I’ve lived in my home for 3 months. I’m surrounded by fields and rolling countryside which I love as it’s very relaxing…the only downside is the creepy crawlies that decide to take up residence inside! I’ve got a lovely little garden where I can grow vegetables and lots of flowers. It’s so quiet and tranquil around where I live. Describe your interior style: I would describe my interior as country style with modern touches. I like to add grey and copper accessorises with neutral-coloured furniture. My style has changed over the last few years as I used to have quite a girlie interior with pastel pinks and duck egg blue. My style has definitely matured as I’ve got older.  Where do you take your inspiration from?   A lot of it comes from Instagram and Pinterest. My f...

| HOME | The New Room

With less than a month until the move, I thought I'd share with you my ideas for the decor of our new room. As you know I do love cottage interiors, but for quite some time even before the news of the move, I was getting the itch to do an interior overhaul and incorporate house plants and have a more "bohemian/botanical" vibe.  The new room luckily is large. It's around the same size as our current bedroom with a slight bay window. We also don't need to worry about taking our huge ugly wardrobe with us as the room has built in cupboards (all with full length mirrors which will create some light in the room). The carpet is neutral and only a few years old so that won't need replacing. I was toying with painting the walls completely white, but we settled on a warmer toned paint from Dulux called "Natural Hessian" which is a light beige colour. I'm actually quite excited to have a whole new room to put my stamp on...and I get to wave go...

| HOME | Our Stylish Rented Homes (Featuring Stephanie from Matson Bailey)

Welcome to my new regular post "Our Stylish Rented Homes". In this first post, I interviewed Stephanie from Matson Bailey . Please don't forget that if you would like to be featured in a future post, upload photos of your rented home to Instagram and use the hashtag #ourstylishrentedhomes ........ Hi, I’m Stephanie (Steph) and I have lived in my rented (shared) home in Camberwell, South London for almost 5 years now. I love the area as I'm so close to the centre of London but have the advantage of being on the edge of town near to the countryside so it’s really the best of both worlds. Obviously the pit falls of living in a shared home is that a lot of things can become broken or ruined because your housemates don’t often understand the importance or sentimentality of your belongings or simply how to keep things nice. However, my room is my little sanctuary to stamp my mark onto and to keep my ridiculous amount of bits and bobs that I have collected over the year...

| HOME | Botanical Inspired Interiors

As I sit here shivering and writing this, I'm so ready for the warmer weather to arrive and to actually enjoy the outdoors again! I think because of this, I've recently developed a love of plants inside the home as you can enjoy being surrounded by nature and lush green plants all year round! At the beginning of the year I spent some of my Christmas money on a lovely large ceramic pot from H&M Home and an indoor plant to pop in it. The plant seemed to suddenly transform the feel of the room, and I found myself itching to get some more. Obviously as I mentioned in my previous post, we are having to move out in 2 months time and essentially we will be doing a form of house share, so space will be very limited in the new place- well just confined to one room actually! However, this hasn't phased me, and I will try and incorporate some greenery into our new living space! I've taken a lot of inspiration from Pinterest (check out my page here  if you haven't don...

| HOME | Decorating With Pumpkins (For Grown Ups!)

Last weekend we visited a local farm which was holding its annual "pick your own pumpkin" event. I honestly didn't realise how enjoyable being in a field of pumpkins could actually be! At this particular place, they had over 50...yes 50  varieties of pumpkin. It's astounding to see all the different colours, shapes and sizes that you never knew existed. There's something very satisfying about foraging amongst the foliage and filling your arms (or in our case a wheelbarrow!) with your pumpkin finds- I guess that's the "hunter gatherer" instinct in all of us. I decided not to carve my pumpkins. It's fine when you're younger or you have children, but having a collection of pumpkins with manic toothy grins around the flat isn't really "me" and also once they are carved out, they don't last particularly long. Instead I decided to still celebrate Autumn and Halloween with the pumpkins, but to make the decoration a...

| HOME | My Interior Style

If I could describe my interior style, I think it would be “cottage/shabbychic/scandi” but really it’s just an accumulation of things that I think look pretty. Going back about 7½ years when myself and my partner first moved in to our flat, I had completely different taste. Before moving in, my “dream” interior was to have dark super-modern furniture, lots of chrome, faux fur throws and generally feeling very “luxe”. I lusted after a dark brown faux leather bed frame and I was thrilled when we managed to buy my ideal bed. After a year or so, we also painted the bedroom walls in a brown paint which had a hint of purple to it from Wilkos- I believe it was called “Earthy Hue”. I'd always wanted to paint rooms in brown (I think this was due to the fact that my parent’s house was predominantly painted in magnolia and my bedroom was wallpapered…I just needed to get it out of my system!) and I thought that this colour would make the room feel cosy. BIG mistake. Combined with the dark w...

| HOME | Brand Watch: Emma Bridgewater

A number of years ago I noticed pictures of other people’s dinnerware circulating online and in magazines, which featured white crockery with bold black lettering swirled around the outside of plates, bowls and mugs. Although a simple design, the collection really captivated me and I knew that I wanted to get my hands on some of my own. I discovered that this was the Emma Bridgewater “Black Toast” collection- one part of many collections that she has created during her 32 years in production. Other current collections include Marmalade, Rose and Bee, Polka Dot, Wallflower, Starry Skies and Pink Hearts (to name but a few). Each design is like a work of art; sponged or hand painted onto the pottery. You also have the option to personalise your item with a name for example, if you so wish. The pottery itself feels thick, sturdy and built to last; no wonder then that so many people have been collecting Emma Bridgewater for decades! Personally as I said, I’m a rea...
