| HOME | The New Room

With less than a month until the move, I thought I'd share with you my ideas for the decor of our new room.

As you know I do love cottage interiors, but for quite some time even before the news of the move, I was getting the itch to do an interior overhaul and incorporate house plants and have a more "bohemian/botanical" vibe.

The new room luckily is large. It's around the same size as our current bedroom with a slight bay window. We also don't need to worry about taking our huge ugly wardrobe with us as the room has built in cupboards (all with full length mirrors which will create some light in the room). The carpet is neutral and only a few years old so that won't need replacing. I was toying with painting the walls completely white, but we settled on a warmer toned paint from Dulux called "Natural Hessian" which is a light beige colour.

I'm actually quite excited to have a whole new room to put my stamp on...and I get to wave goodbye to the dark MDF bedroom furniture I had previously!  My sister has given me her old pine chest of drawers which I will be up-cycling with Rustoleum chalk paint in the shade "Winter Grey". Recently I came across a lady's blog who tried distressing her chalk painted furniture with vinegar- yes vinegar! I couldn't believe it either, but the outcome looked fantastic and I will definitely be trying it. Check out her finished results here. I've got my eye on some beautiful drawer knobs for it from Anthropologie, but as I've got to buy 8 of them, I'm hoping they come down in price a bit first!

Plants will be a prominent feature in the new room. I just love how some foliage can completely transform a living space, and they don't have to cost a fortune either. I have a parlour palm, two aloe vera plants and a tiny succulent to add so far- all these came to under £10. I've also noticed that the "string of pearls" plant has been featured heavily online recently and are in high demand! Most places I looked at had sold out unfortunately. However, I've sourced a faux version from eBay for under £5! They look pretty realistic and I can't wait to arrange them on a shelf above the bed. I saw this picture on the Urban Outfitters website which has given me a lot of food for thought!

Here are some other beautiful plant filled interiors for inspiration.

We've made an adjustment to the room already. The curtains were looking incredibly dated with a blue and cream pelmet at the top. The blue wouldn't go with my planned colour scheme. We made a joint decision to remove this, but unfortunately the bit of wood it was hooked onto is attached to the curtain rail, meaning that it can't be taken off. The plan is to paint the bit of wood white to lift the window area and then make the wood a high up shelf. I think it will look quite nice with some antique books dotted around on top!

The only downside to the room (there's always one!) is that the wardrobes are a fitted unit which we are unable to remove or make changes to. These sadly do look dated, so don't expect them to feature in any future Instagram posts!

Here's the some shots of the bedroom- these ugly divan beds are getting chucked thank god, so I get to keep my white bed frame.

I'll of course do another post soon with an updated progress report. Keep your eyes peeled!

| DIY | DIY Rustic Shelf

We've always needed more storage space in the kitchen. We have around 4 cupboards which we use for our appliances, cups/glasses/plates/bowls, tinned food and cereals, and a cupboard designated for general items we have no where to keep such as vases, tins of paint, dusters etc.  We had a largish amount of blank wall that I knew I wanted to do something with, but other things in the flat always took precedence.  Thanks to Instagram and Pinterest, I noticed that a lot of people were making shelves out of old bits of wood or scaffolding boards. Purely by chance a while ago, my other half was given 2 scaffolding boards by someone who had no use for them. Finally during some much needed annual leave, I pestered my Dad to help me with my project! I couldn't decide what brackets I wanted. I didn't want modern style brackets as that isn't really the "vibe" I go for. I was torn between antique-style cast iron brackets from Amazon , or some white distresse

| HOME | A Look Inside AmysAnnexe's Home

My friend has recently moved into her own place, so I decided to pop over and pick her brain about all things homes and interiors!  Hi, I’m Amy (amysannexe on Instagram) and I’ve lived in my home for 3 months. I’m surrounded by fields and rolling countryside which I love as it’s very relaxing…the only downside is the creepy crawlies that decide to take up residence inside! I’ve got a lovely little garden where I can grow vegetables and lots of flowers. It’s so quiet and tranquil around where I live. Describe your interior style: I would describe my interior as country style with modern touches. I like to add grey and copper accessorises with neutral-coloured furniture. My style has changed over the last few years as I used to have quite a girlie interior with pastel pinks and duck egg blue. My style has definitely matured as I’ve got older.  Where do you take your inspiration from?   A lot of it comes from Instagram and Pinterest. My favourite home

| DIY | Homemade Bedside Lights

The new room is coming together really well. Everything I had envisioned for it has turned out exactly right! One thing that I’m most happy with is our brand new shelf/bedside lighting. This was all done for well under £100. I was lucky enough to already have the wooden scaffolding board for my old kitchen shelf. My dad helped me to distress it as it was a brand new piece of wood. Click here to read about that process. In the new room, our bed is pushed up against the chimney breast which obviously juts out a bit compared to the rest of the wall on that side. When considering the space we had I realised that a bedside table either side of the bed just wouldn’t work. This then raised the question…where do we put bedside lamps? I’ve seen a few pictures floating around the internet showing large filament Edison bulbs hanging from either the ceiling or the wall either side of a bed. I loved the look as I’m a big fan of Industrial-looking interiors. This seemed like a l
